Flu Ended 82-Year-Old's Skiing Streak By Josh Adams Paul Schipper began skiing in 1980. Since that day, quite literally nothing could stop him. Paul Is now 82 years old, and has been forced out of his 3,903 day skiing streak by a case of the flu. He had never missed a day without skiing for 25 years, even with the medical conditions that were in severe conflict with his health and life. It started in the 1980-1981 season where he set the goal of skiing every day while he stayed at a relaxing ski lodge after retirement. That goal was met, and with it came a complete and undeniable obsession with skiing. Through cancer of the kidney, heart bypass surgery, a snowboarder collision, and macular degeneration, Mr. Schipper managed to pull through his nearly unreachable goal of skiing 4,000 days straight. And unfortunately, it was an unreachable goal. Paul suffered from a rare case of the flu that set him out a few days, and in that, disrupting his daily obsession. Paul is still a healthy and active young old man, who still enjoys skiing from time to time. He says that it’s much more to enjoy when you don’t feel like you have to do it. We can all understand that for fact.
