Teens Have Sex Earlier Than Parents Think

Over 1,000 teens were surveyed from ages thirteen to sixteen about whether they had been in an intimate, or sexual situation. The survey returned with 27 percent saying they had been active in some sexual or intimate situation, while another survey returned 83 percent of parents believing their kids never went past kissing. Twelve of the 27 percent of teens said they engaged in only oral sex, while thirteen admitted to having sexual intercourse. Of that thirteen percent, half of them had said their first time was at age fourteen. The other 83 percent of those surveyed didn’t think it was right for 13 and 14 year olds to be even having oral sex. Parents need to be talking much more with their children even if they think they trust and know them as well as the think. Twelve year olds are getting pregnant because their parents are just not communicating effectively about sex- or even more likely they're not communicating at all. School drop outs, problems with relationships, budget deficiency, and countless other negative consequences can be expected from a teen pregnancy. -Two out of three pregnant teenagers drop out of school.
-With education cut short, the teenage mother may lack job skills. The income of teen mothers is half that of those who first gave birth in their 20s. The teenage mother may become financially dependent on her family or on welfare.
-Teenage marriages have a much greater chance of ending in divorce. |
